Tuhfat al Mujahidin

Shaykh Zainuddin Makhdum’s “Tuhfat al-Mujahidin” is a pioneering historical work dealing with the struggles of the Malabar Muslims against the Portuguese incursion in India. This work was first written in Arabic in the late 16th century based on the author’s first-hand information of events and what he could gather from reliable sources.

This work could be called as one of the earliest anti-colonial manifesto and was translated into many European languages. To our knowledge English translation of this book is now extinct. This is called by many as a source book of European colonial history.
This translation of Tufat is extensively annotated with more than 200 notes and 15 photographs explaining local backgrounds and people mentioned in the original work. Tufat is a compulsory reading for anyone who is interested in the history of colonialism.
