Call of Abraham

Author Ahmed Muhammedi takes the readers progressively to a point from where they get a
much broader and wider perspective of history and society. Th ey are
drawn closer to Abraham the fountain head of spirituality, mysticism,
courage, persistence, love, sacrifi ce, rebelliousness and more than
anything else the father of civilizations. Th is work attains signifi cance
owing to two reasons. Firstly, the author reminds the fellow travelers
to set eyes on the prophets through Abrahamic prism. Th is kind of
reading, unmistakably, would guide humanity for much enhanced
understanding and a healthy ambiance for subsequent dialogue
among the great religions. Secondly, his intense and passionate love
for Prophet Abraham is for the whole of human race, indeed, cutting
across ethnicity, race, caste and nation. Th is profound love as it spills
over leaves a myriad of wonderful colours all along this work.

TUHFAT AL MUJAHIDIN and other stories

It is a wonder that many are very much eager to read more on the history of Kerala. Two recent queries were from US and Malaysia. It would be very interesting to know that Tuhat al Mujahidin was written prior to the development of present day malayalam script.

Tuhfat al Mujahidin

Shaykh Zainuddin Makhdum’s “Tuhfat al-Mujahidin” is a pioneering historical work dealing with the struggles of the Malabar Muslims against the Portuguese incursion in India. This work was first written in Arabic in the late 16th century based on the author’s first-hand information of events and what he could gather from reliable sources.

This work could be called as one of the earliest anti-colonial manifesto and was translated into many European languages. To our knowledge English translation of this book is now extinct. This is called by many as a source book of European colonial history.
This translation of Tufat is extensively annotated with more than 200 notes and 15 photographs explaining local backgrounds and people mentioned in the original work. Tufat is a compulsory reading for anyone who is interested in the history of colonialism.
