Another interesting work on Mappila history

Fateh Al Mubeen is a collection of poems penned during 16th century by a contemporary of Sheikh Makhdum. This was written on the backdrop of liberation of CHALIYAM FORT from the Portuguese invaders by Kunhali Marakkar's naval fleet and Nayar Army...

You might want to look up the history of the Ba 'Alawi, and go up the genealogical tree. There is a Jiffri House in Calicut, and the Tsaqafat as-Sunniyah Madrasa also near to Calicut, which would have more documents and info both verbal and written on this.

Also, I heard that there is a large Ba Faqih cemetery in Kollam which might suggest a large number of them or members of other branches of the family there.

I do not discredit the local Keralite scholars at all, but so far things hinted at the importance of the Ba 'Alawi family, very much so on the Malayan Archipelago, what with nearly all Malay royal house descend or intermarried with this noble family of the Prophet upon whom be peace.
